Ages 11-19
Music genre:
6 out of the 10 respondents aged 11-19 named pop-rock as their favourite genre. Often they were indecisive, and this would be amongst a few other genres (e.g. one respondent wrote 'Pop-punk/rock/pop-rock'). I found that the older respondents in this age group (ages 18 and 19) were more likely to name old rock or a less well-known genre such as glam rock as their favourite. Mainly, the pop-rock genre was favourited by those aged between 15 and 17, so this would be my target demographic for the pop-rock genre.Interests and hobbies:
The most popular hobbies and interests named from respondents in this demographic were films, TV, socializing, music and gigs. This question was useful in identifying psychographic information about this demographic, giving me an insight into why pop-rock is a popular genre; interests such as socializing and gigs signifies the outgoing and fun-seeking nature of this young audience and thus could explain why the light-hearted mood of pop-rock music appeals to them.
Favourite bands and artists:
The most popular artists named within the pop-rock genre included Green Day, The Killers, Oasis, New Found Glory and blink-182. This gave me some ideas about which videos, albums and advertisements to analyse when researching comparable products of the pop-rock genre. When asked what appeals to them about these artists, some of the most frequent answers were relatable lyrics, the attitude of the music and artists, the energy and the melodiousness of the songs.
Music channels and videos:
As pop rock is a mainstream genre and so does not have a particularly fragmented audience in terms of specific music tastes, the responses given for which music channel would play the respondent's favourite genre were varied. However, this does give me an idea as to which music channels to research further.

I have categorised the answers to this question into five elements common in music videos. In hindsight, it would have been easier to analyse the results of this question if I used a closed question rather than an open-ended one.
There was a general consensus amongst the respondents that the most favourable element of a pop-rock music video was the storyline. When it comes to making our music video, I will consider the narrative structure and character constructions within the video. Artist appearances and the costume, make-up and movement of characters, artists and/or dancers in the video was also favourable to the audience.
Album covers and magazine advertisements:

These two questions gave me some ideas about what my audience find appealing in album covers and magazine advertisements. Bright, eye-catching colours and cartoons were the two most appealing aspects of an album cover to my audience, and in magazine advertisements extracts from reviews and suitable colours were favoured.

The results I have collected from my audience research questionnaire have helped me to identify my music genre, pop rock, and its target audience; teenagers of both genders aged 15-17. From finding out their interests and hobbies, favourite artists and videos; I have also identified their lifestyle segment, the LifeMatrix segment 'Fun/Atics' (aspirational, fun-seeking, active young people). The questionnaire has also helped me collect ideas about what my target audience would like to see in the products my group and I produce. I will now complete my audience profile and research comparable products within this genre in order to find out the codes and conventions of products within the pop rock genre.
