Completed Music Video

Overall, our music video works effectively for the pop rock genre. Our audience feedback told us that the party scenes and narrative of our video was realistic and targeted the audience well. Through constructing a stereotypical representation of youth, by using close-ups of alcohol bottles, a 'love story' narrative and fast motion party scenes, which connotes the stereotypical fast-paced and hedonistic lifestyle of youth, we have targeted our audience who would identify with the characters and settings.

We found that we had developed our skills in camerawork, in the variety of camera movements and shots we used, since our AS Level work last year. For example, in this video we effectively constructed an identity for our artist through the variety of close-ups during band performance scenes, as well as connoted Proppian character types through POV and tracking shots of the Hero, etcetera. Also, we used iMovie 09 to edit our video which helped us create fast-motion, slow-motion and different coloured or dream-like effects, and use the conventional fast-paced straight cuts in pop rock videos.

We have constructed a fun, laid-back image of our band through use of bright colours and shots of them laughing. This puts them on the 'same level' as their audience, making them relatable and likable. A feminist analysis of our video would highlight the unconventional use of instruments for the female band members, which means we are targeting and providing more admirable role models for a young, modern female audience.

The thorough research and planning that has been carried out meant the filming ran smoothly, and the end product fits perfectly with the pop rock genre. I feel I now have plenty to write about in the evaluation stage in the A2 examination.

  1. I love this video and have noticed that you picked up on all the same things as Rachel and I did genre wise. The jumpy camera movements are good but I think the length of the shots with Katie and Jaz at the end just smiling are too long. xx

  2. Think this works really well for the 'pock' genre. Pacey and I like the 'cheesey; smiles at the end. Some good framing and camerawork as well as solid editing I would have liked to see more in the way of performance and perhaps the lip synching needs to be tighter in parts.

  3. I love this video, i think the house party scene was the perfect choice for this genre and the song to be honest. Katie was a good choice for the artist as the camera clearly likes her and she acts out the part really well :)

  4. I really liked the realistic element to this music video and it really fits the genre and their was a clear narrative. I did feel that I didn't see much of the artist singing.
But besides that i liked the use of images from the skatepark, connoting the genre.

  6. I think your video looks really realistic. I like the shot of Katie looking back and how the camera looks like a person at the party. I don't understand the shots of the skatepark as nothing happens there in the video. I think there should be more of the band in the video.

  7. I really enjoyed watching the video, it contains alot of realism which I think young audiences will be able to relate too. I would have liked to see the band more but overall it's entertaining and fits your genre really well.

  9. I think your video reflects your genre perfectly and is realistic and fun! I particularly like how the band is shot together along with colour over it but i'd have liked to have seen more of the band. However, your video really appeals to your target audience with images of alcohol and parting, the skatepark setting and the costume of those in the video. The party scene is realistic and really funny :)
